Comparison of How William Shatner Was Portrayed As An Old Man in 1967 vs How He Appears Today

wow *shivers* I have been actually wanting to do something similar with Bill's distinctive expressions <3

Forty-four years ago, how close did the Star Trek producers come in projecting how William Shatner would look as an old man? Back then, there was an episode called 'The Deadly Years' that aired on Dec 8, 1967 where Captain Kirk (Shatner) and his crew become exposed to a strange form of radiation that rapidly ages them. Shatner was 36 years old at the time this aired. You can see the makeup and effects they used back then to try to project how he would look as an old man (or in other words how he would appear today). How close did they come? Compare with Shatner's image when he appeared on the Piers Morgan Tonight show on Nov 18, 2011 (Shatner is 80 years old as of this date).

Shatner seems to have less wrinkles and smoother skin than his old man portrayal from 44 years ago. It's evident that they didn't take into consideration weight gain over the years. Also note, Shatner even tries talking like an old man back then, which is not similar to how he sounds today.

You can skip right to the 3:35 mark to see the images and side-by-side image.
